Why You Should Get New Electric Blankets

Many of us probably do not realize that the idea of the electric blankets came about as early as 1912. However it was only in late 1930s that the idea was finally brought forward to the American public. Of course the idea then was simple enough. To provide people with an easy and affordable way to combat the cold and keep themselves warm during the winter months. These older versions of the electric blankets were of course a far cry from the selection of electric blankets that we have today.

If you own an electric blanket that is more than a few years old, then what you have in your possession may not be the best that the electric blankets have to offer. Nowadays greater technology advances have upgraded the electric blankets into better made and more efficient blankets. And today’s electric blankets are by far the most comfortable that they have ever been. One great advancement is in the area of energy usage. The older electric blankets use 110 or 240 volts just to keep the user warm.

This means that a lot of electricity was needed for that one blanket. Now however, the electric blankets run on only 24 volts. So this has been a great breakthrough in the history of the electric blanket. No longer do you have to pay for all that extra electricity. Remember this too, when purchasing your electric blanket. The cheapest blanket that you find may not necessarily be the best for you.

Features of Electric Blankets

One other advancement is the fact that electric blankets are not much more comfortable than those of years ago. How is this so? Well, today the blankets are made using what is known as carbon fiber, which is a new wiring system. This new system is not hard and stiff like the previous blankets made years ago. Previous blankets were unbending and thus uncomfortable for the user. Today, the blankets too are made from much softer material like fleece.

And the other thing that has been making the electric blanket more sought after today is the fact that the electric blanket carries more options for you to choose from. The older blankets provide you with basically three options, low, medium and high. Today you can welcome a lot more in terms of controls and features of your electric blanket.

Some blankets feature remotes which allow you to pre-program your blanket to turn itself on whenever you like. Imagine pre-programming the blanket to turn on before your bedtime. You’ll be able to climb into bed and have a great warm bed to lie in. And with this great pre-programming feature, you can also determine when to turn off the blanket automatically. This could save you electricity as the blanket can shut itself off instead of being on the whole day.

Many Options Available

It is also good to know that there are many other options in terms of style and design for the electric blanket and there is bound to be one that is right for your needs. Have you ever thought of having a double electric blanket? This could be used on a bigger surface like your double bed. And if that’s not big enough, you can also choose to have the electric blanket queen for your queen sized bed, or the king size electric blanket if you have the bigger alternative. There is also the electric throw blanket which you can use while cuddling up on the sofa with your loved ones. With all these new options, the features are great too. The bigger sized blankets offer dual controls so that two different people on the same bed can have two separate controls on how warm they want their side of the blanket to be. How’s that for amazing?

It's Time You Replace Old Electric Blankets

If you do own an electric blanket that’s a few years old now, you should seriously consider getting yourself some new ones. This is more for safety reasons, as blankets which are almost ten years old can have components which are wearing thin due to the wear and tear. The electric blankets can be unsafe for you and your family, as they can become a potential fire hazard. Getting the newer models with the new wiring systems will make it much safer for you and your family.
