White vs. Colored Wedding Dresses

In reality, the white wedding dress is relatively new, having become a staple of weddings after Queen Victoria’s 1840 wedding to Prince Albert. It was the height of fashion then and that was how the tradition of wearing white wedding dresses came about.

During that time, many brides were married in their best existing gown as not many people were able to afford a dress that would be worn only once. That means that those wedding dresses were of many different colors and seldom white.

Even though white dresses are popular, colored wedding dresses are making a comeback. So, if black wedding dresses you are looking for, then who's to say you shouldn't go ahead with it right?

In actual fact, in other parts of the world, people of different cultures wear all sorts of colors for their weddings. Why let them have all the fun? Isn't it time that we also join them and have all the fun ourselves?

How to Wear Black Wedding Dresses

If you are planning a gothic wedding or any other spookily themed wedding such as a Halloween wedding, black wedding dresses would be the perfect choice.

However those are not the only occasions where you can opt for black. You can wear black at your wedding by incorporating it with some other colours like hints of red, silver and white. These colours will make the black look less sombre.

When it comes to fabric, choose something light as opposed to heavy material (unless your theme is renaissance) and avoid dark makeup (especially red lips and dark eyes) to even out the black wedding dress.

Look Stunning in Black Wedding Dresses

When it comes to styles for black wedding dresses, opt for close fitting gowns which will flatter you more. Of course you can still have full flowing skirts but make sure the skirt is with a tight fitting bodice.

When choosing black wedding dresses, avoid long and solid sleeves, choose instead something sheer. Black wedding dresses look fantastic with tasteful jewellery. Pick simple pieces for a look that says understated elegance, rather than heavy ornamental pieces that fight for attention and make you look over the top.

How to Convince Others About Black Wedding Dresses

When going for black wedding dresses, do consider your partners preferences. Of course your family preferences should also be considered but the most important person in your decision is your partner.

These days however many couples are non-traditionalists who are intent on making their wedding individual and unique so choosing a black wedding gown is easier.

If anyone in your bridal party needs convincing, show them the beautiful designer dresses that are in black or spread the words to them about this page for that matter ;). These gorgeous designs will surely change their minds.

How to Purchase Black Wedding Dresses

Choosing a black wedding dress means that you need to do your wedding dress shopping much earlier as they are not the easiest styles and color to find. Be open to other alternatives that may do the job, such as prom dresses or even bridesmaids dresses, seeing that not many bridal gowns are made in black.

On the other hand, if you have the patience and the dedication then you will surely find the perfect fit and color for your dream wedding dress. Consider the fact that you can also order black wedding dresses online or even have a dress made just for you. If black is your color of choice, then there should be no reason for you to not wear it on your wedding day. All you need is time and effort to make sure you get the perfect black wedding dress.

Thanks AprilCas. Gone are the days where brides opt for the traditional white wedding dresses. Themes are very big in today's weddings. If a black wedding dress is your thing, then why not go ahead with it? We only get to get married once... er... hope so...
