Getting To Know The Zebra Rugs
68Zebra Rugs and its 3 Main Differences
In our homes, we often use furnishings such as area rugs to set the mood of the room. Floor area rugs can be an easy way to accentuate the décor theme of the room. They can also visually represent the personality or style of the homeowners. One type of rug that will surely be a different theme is the zebra rug. Zebra rugs evoke the more adventurous nature theme and remind us of the wild jungles.
There are some differences that we can find between the many zebra rugs that are being sold today. A zebra rug is as the name suggests, a rug that looks like a zebra. However, this is where you need to know the differences that are available when it comes to these rugs. There are three types of such rugs as they each have their own qualities.
Real Zebra Skin Rugs
A zebra skin rug can be made from real zebra skin. When purchasing real zebra skin, you need to make sure that it has been manufactured and imported legally, as there is a restriction on making rugs out of endangered species. The African government has put a restriction on animal skins, and so you need to make sure that the manufacturers have a license or permit to do so. Most of them get their supply of skins from the Southern African Government sponsored culls. These real zebra skin is from the Burchells zebra, a very prolific species and not on the endangered list. The highest grade of such a rug is really popular with high paying customers who want the best for their homes. These rugs normally come with the mane, tail, head, eyes and ears.
These real skin rugs measure about 8 feet long and about 5 1\2 feet at its widest point. This is the average size, but then again sizes may vary. Since they are made from real skin, the background color also varies, from white, to cream to beige. If you choose to have a real zebra skin for your rug, it is important for you to get one with a felt backing option. This backing will help you rug to lie flat, and will prevent the edges of the rug from curling up. A real zebra skin rug may be expensive and cost you several thousands, but it will last a lifetime.
Zebra Print Rug Made From Natural Skin
The second type of zebra rug is a rug made from other natural fibers or skin. It is made to look exactly like a zebra skin rug. These rugs often take the shape of the zebra skin but are not made of real zebra. They are often referred to as the zebra print rugs. Nonetheless, these rugs can provide you with the natural wild look of the animal and bring the rugged outdoors into your home.
These zebra print rugs are made from materials such as cowhide, bull hide, goatskin and even sheepskin. These hide and skin have been dyed or stenciled with zebra stripes to make them look like authentic zebra skins. The size of the ones made from cowhide and bull hide are somewhat similar to the original zebra skin, but the ones made from sheepskin and goatskin are smaller. These rugs are cheaper than the original zebra skin and can make any room in your home attractive and eye-catching.
Zebra Print Rugs on Synthetic Materials
The third type of zebra rugs is the one that uses natural fibers or synthetic materials. Also referred to as zebra printed rugs, they are made to look like zebra skins but are not made in the shape of the skin. Rather they come in rectangular, square, round, and oval shapes. They are rugs manufactured with zebra stripes and can also come in other colors than black, white, cream or beige.
These zebra rugs can be found either handmade or machine made. They also come in a variety of materials and weaving techniques, such as handmade tufted wool, and machine woven acrylic, nylon, and polypropylene. These zebra print rugs are much cheaper compared to the real thing. They are also made for people who do not want to use real skin. But of course a hand tufted wool zebra rug will cost more than a machine made nylon rug.
